Sour Cream Sugar Cookies- Valentines Day Style

This a recipe I acquired from a friend while living in Bartlesville, OK. It is a great basic sugar cookie recipe that always satisfies the masses. All you need are some festive cookie cutters and some pink and red sprinkles to create a yummy Valentines Day treat.

 Ingredients:
  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cu[ sour cream
  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
Directions:
  1. Mix all ingredients thoroughly.
  2. Wrap in waxed paper and chill 1 hour.
  3. Roll out, cut, and bake on ungreased (I use Pam spray even though the directions say not to.) cookie sheet @350 for 10-12 minutes.
  4. Let cool on wire rake prior to decorating.

I work with small sections of dough at a time.
Desired thickness of dough.

Thanks Jackie for a great addition to my collection!

 Decorating:
To decorate I use plain store bought icing and gel food coloring. Gel food coloring works best for red, black and royal blue, but if you only have liquid on hand it will work just fine.
After the cookies have completely cooled it is time to decorate. I start by icing the entire cookie with the desired color icing. Then I use icing pens or sprinkles to give them a little more pizazz.

Packaging:
After you have allowed the cookies to cool and the icing to harden, use simple candy bags (I got mine at Wal-Mart) and some pink ribbon complete the look for the perfect Valentines Day treat.
